Philip Kuruvita Photography has been operating in Tasmania now for 32 years and has developed a professional practice of national and international standard and recognition.

Philip Kuruvita G.M.Photog FAIPP has successfully exhibited extensively and received numerous national awards and accolades for his work. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (FAIPP) and was awarded the distinction of Grand Master of Photography in 20112. There are currently just 22 Grand Masters of Photography in this country, and Philip is the only Tasmanian with this accolade. He is also a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute (FNZIPP)

Philip has served on the National Board of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) as both National President and Chairman of the Board. The AIPP is the peak industry body for professional photographers in Australia, and during his seven years on the Board, Philip was involved in all aspects of professional photography in this country. In his role as President, Philip presided over numerous changes in the way the industry operated in Australia, and was responsible for forging strong international ties with the photographic industry, both here in Australia, and in New Zealand .

 

Vicki Kuruvita B.Arch is a former architect and has operated as studio manager for the last 24years. She looks after all the design work for the studio, and has been the designer and editor of numerous books and publications produced by the studio over this time. Vicki has been the designer and administrator for the 6 previous Faces of Launceston Exhibitions, as well as a further eight solo exhibitions of Philip’s work. In 2009, the Australian Institute of Professional Photography honoured Vicki with the Claude McCarthy Award for services to the Industry.

In February 2009 Philip was invited to present a paper at the Wedding Portrait Photographers International (WPPI ) convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. This conference is one of the largest in North America and had over 12,000 delegates from around the world. Philip spoke about the Faces of Launceston Project in a 2 hour presentation.

Philip Kuruvita Photography has successfully completed several major photographic commissions that have resulted in publications for North Forest Products, Wrest Point Casino, Make a Wish Foundation, Hodder Headline and Murdoch Books to name just a few. The studio has now published 12 major books including the best selling Tamar Valley Pantry, and Launceston, a Sense of Place.
