Faces of Launceston 2022 - The City is the latest installment of the on-going Faces of Launceston series that has been going since 1995

Over the last 32 years, Launceston photographer Philip Kuruvita has photographed over 600 people who call Launceston home, and in doing so has created a body of work that describes the city as it is at the end of the 20th Century and into the early years of the 21st.

Over the years there have been a series of exhibitions, that have examined various aspects of life in Launceston. This year, we are looking at the inner city, the areas between George and Wellington street and between Cameron street and Elizabeth Street.

If you would like to get involved, please register your interest below.

How can you get involved?

Photographic subject

We will be looking for between 35 and 50 people to photograph. Most will be individual portraits in Black and White which hopefully presents some aspect of the person’s life and involvement in the city. There is the possibility of having two people in the picture if it is a vital piece of the story, however I will not be doing group shots of the entire sales team. There will also be a signature , some basic details such as how long you have lived in the city, and a short quote from the subject that’ll add another layer of understanding to the image.

Venue

We would like you to display one image from the exhibition. It will be aprox 600mmX900mm, printed onto a vinyl material that we stick to a shop window, internal or external wall, with no adhesive. This specialty material can be removed and repositioned numerous times, and will not leave any residue or cause any damage to the underlying surface.
We would like to match the subjects with the locations, so having someone that either owns, works in or is a customer of a particular venue will allow us to weave the story of how the two elements fit together.
If you would still like to host one of the images, but can’t nominate a subject, we will work with you to find a suitable subject.

Nominate

You can nominate someone that you think might be a great fit for this project , final selection of people for the exhibition and the final image used will be the sole discretion of PKP
