Restauranteur, Marketer

Place of birth: Montreal, Canada

Year of birth: 1963

Lived in Launceston: Since 1992 - April

I am passionate about my adopted home, Launceston, Tasmania. I arrived here in April 1992 from my home country Canada where my husband, Rod Ascui, was out on a ski holiday. He came back from the Rocky Mountains with more than a souvenir!
When I first arrived I could not believe the rest of the world knew so little about this fabulous island State. Since then I have made it my personal quest to promote Tasmania as a tourism destination and its fantastic food and wine products and the personalities behind them to the rest of the world.
Using my marketing and sales skills, my experience in the Canadian tourism industry and my science degree I have been able to contribute to many Boards and Industries and many facets of the Tasmanian community. I love working with the Tasmanian Brand, its value continues to grow in the Australian marketplace strengthening our clean green image.
Developing and running Lalla Gully Vineyard, Stillwater Restaurant and Black Cow Bistro alongside my Husband are my proudest business achievements as well as being mother to our son, a strapping young lad currently studying at Uni in Melbourne. What a great place it has been to raise a child.
Helping found Launceston’s first true Farmer’s Market, Harvest Launceston has also been a richly rewarding experience. Working with a group of dynamic intelligent women bringing something to the city that the community is so proud and supportive of and is recognised as one of the best in the country is very special.
My husband may have lured me here but I could not have chosen a better place in the world to call home!
