Rob Cassidy

Tamar River Cruises

Place of birth: Launceston

Year of birth: 1949

Lived in Launceston: Nearly all of my life

Rob Cassidy feels at home on the Tamar River. He is a fourth generation sailor and like his forefathers, spent his childhood sailing dinghies on Launceston’s historic Tamar River. As a teenager his time was spent either at the Tamar Yacht Club or helping his father Max in his Wellington Street butchers shop. At the age of 17, when most young men purchase their first car, Rob had saved up enough money to purchase instead a 25 foot keel boat called ‘Pim’.
Rob’s vision of starting a cruise company in his home town of Launceston became a reality in 1996 when Tamar River Cruises was born. Tamar River Cruises has become one of Launceston’s success stories. Nearly 10 years on, Launceston’s multi award winning Tamar River Cruises showcases Launceston and the Cataract Gorge to approximately 40,000 passengers annually and employs 20 people.
Rob’s obvious passion for Launceston and his family connections, bring the river to life through a fascinating narrative that touches, intrigues and inspires visitors from around the world everyday on Launceston’s historic Tamar River.
