Place of birth: Launceston

Year of birth: 1963

Lived in Launceston: I moved back to the region in 1996

I chose to return to live in Northern Tasmania because of the light. Across the Northern plains the skies are big and dramatic, making me think of the paintings of Constable. Yet Launceston and Rome share the latitude of 41 degrees, so the light here is more reminiscent of Italian painting. The combination of light and drama in the landscape here is unique.
